Chapter 14
NO, I SHOULDNâT GIVE HIM any more. Definitely not.
And it wasnât for nothing that I decided to get a little bit away. The gigantic 30-foot anthropomorphic cactus with a tiny head might not have been able to damage me, but there was a spectacular view from up here!
And there definitely was something to watch here.
Right after taking the purple crystal, Gosha went right off the rails. It was not like he was an upstanding citizen before, but now even I felt uncomfortable next to him.
First the headâs eyes flashed a bright purple. Then he laughed wickedly and started shouting profanities. What they were referring to, I had no idea, but then the cactus started growing immensely in size.
Roots shot out of Cyrushâs feet, piercing the dead zombies, of which there were more than enough, straight into the ground. The bodies began withering up before my eyes, and the green giant just grew and grewâ¦
Until he reached a height of 30 feet. Right at that moment, the horde had finished with the rest of the carnivorous shoots that Gosha and I had spread out in front of them. I would have to remember to pick up the rewards, although I didnât think there would be much of value there. The toothy weeds simply hadnât gotten to grow as big as last time. So they probably had only eaten normal zombies, which could only drop gray rewards.
The first meager attacks on the cactus just made Gosha laugh. He just kept right on laughing, but now he was ready to go, beginning to push against them one after another. The spikes covering his body had now reached a length of almost two feet, but they were just as sharp as before. And the normal deadies just got impaled on them, not even doing any damage at all to the green monster.
That was all Gosha needed. The stuck bodies would be sucked into the cactus within seconds, making him even stronger.
The stream of monsters was growing ever stronger. The first ones to get past the barrier of cars were the normal ones. Next came the leapers jumping right behind them. Literally a minute later came the big guys, who could easily move the barrier out of the way with their massive bodies, letting a whole stream of dead beasts into the alleyway.
But it didnât matter at all. The zombies just died on the cactus, unable to harm him. So they only attacked the plant as a reaction. The first ones werenât making any attempt, rather trying to get past, farther into the alleyway, to reach the people hiding behind him.
It was clear that the sentient zombie had not yet realized that his compatriot was fighting on our side. Taking control of a sentient zombie, as far as I could tell, was impossible. As for Gosha, he was an artifact, and could be brought under control at a System level only by me. So there was no reason to worry.
âGosha! I really thought you could do more than this!â I shouted from the edge of the roof I was sitting on.
